Horizontal 2-Phase Separator Tool

Gas-liquid horizontal separator sizing transformed from the supplied calculation workbook: vapor-liquid settling, demister allowance, liquid holdup/surge levels, nozzle screening, L/D optimization, and approximate vessel weight.

Workbook reference: Horizontal Two Phase Separator Rev. 4Drag coefficient or K-value methodMetric / Imperial

Enter design data and run the calculation to size the separator.

Workbook transformation

  • Mapped from the uploaded Rev. 4 workbook tabs: Two-Phase Horizontal Metric / Imperial, Summary, optimizer results, and segment tables.
  • Browser-side calculations use analytical circular-segment geometry instead of the workbook lookup tables.
  • Workbook VBA UDFs are reproduced explicitly for drag-coefficient terminal velocity, equivalent droplet diameter, modified lookup interpolation, and GPSA re-entrainment velocity screening.
  • The drag-coefficient polynomial is applied within the workbook design range typically used for separator droplets; very large droplets outside the workbook curve range should be verified separately.
  • Re-entrainment screening follows the workbook basis. Where the workbook uses a reference liquid velocity condition, the same reference basis is retained for workbook equivalence.

Design basis

  • Vapour space is checked against droplet settling residence time, minimum vapour height, demister clearance, and axial vapour velocity.
  • Liquid zones are calculated from retention times, slug volume, pump-out allowance, and vortex breaker allowance.
  • Final sizing should be verified by project standards, vendor data, mechanical design, and applicable code requirements.
  • Results are preliminary process sizing only, not a pressure-vessel mechanical design.
  • Weight is approximate using carbon steel density and simplified ASME-style thickness screening.
  • Head liquid volume is integrated numerically across the head depth to match the workbook segment/head-volume basis more closely.
  • Nozzle sizes are rounded up to common nominal sizes and intended for screening.
