Methodology

  • Darcy-Weisbach straight-pipe friction: ΔPf = f·(L/D)·(ρv²/2) — incompressible liquid
  • Minor losses: ΔPK = ΣK·(ρv²/2) for selected fittings, valves and entrance/exit losses
  • Turbulent (Re ≥ 4000): Swamee-Jain — f = 0.25/[log(ε/3.7D + 5.74/Re0.9)]²
  • Laminar (Re < 2300): f = 64/Re (Hagen-Poiseuille)
  • Transition (2300–4000): linear interpolation for continuity only; not recommended for final sizing
  • Static: ΔPs = ρ·g·Δz / 10&sup5;; +Δz = uphill
  • All calculations performed in SI internally

Assumptions

  • Steady-state, single-phase incompressible flow
  • Isothermal — ρ and μ constant along pipe
  • Newtonian fluid; selected fitting K-losses are included only when entered by user; equipment/control-valve/vendor losses are excluded unless represented by user-entered K
  • Screening-level result — industry best practice checks from uploaded line-sizing criteria are indicative and subject to project/company criteria
